#EiAutaMarkkinavoimat: The burden of the fight against coronavirus should be fairly shared

As a precautionary method against spreading of coronaviruspandemic, Finland, like other countries, has stoped. Peoples activities have been restricted, for example by closing sports facilities, restaurants and banning people gathering events. The whole Uusimaa region, which is the most affected area by the virus, has been closed to all non-essential traffic.

Measures against the pandemic have been appropriate and effective so far. According to the latest information available, the spread of the virus has slowed down. However we remind, that under the guise of emergency situation the functioning of a democratic society and the realization of human rights must not be unnecessarily hindered. The danger of authoritarian practices during the crisis situation is imminent and we have to fight against it. Here in Finland as well as in the rest of Europe. We demand asylum seekers' right to seek protection beyond their own borders to be intact and better protections to those who reside at refugee camps. Government of Finland has to do it's share on facilitating refugees in Greek islands too.

We have to show support and solidarity to workers who are at the forefront of the fight against the coronavirus. The crisis has highlighted the value of the work which keeps societies running and in particular the value of the work of health care professionals. We demand that this work's value is regognized beyond formal speeches. This contribution to society must also be reflected in it's financial compensation. Better wages and better working conditions for workers! No redundancies should not be done for productional and economic reasons during this time.

Though a part of salaried workers have an opportunity to work distance, we must remember that everyone doesn't have that opportunity. Especially freelancers', self-employeds' and temporary workers' livelihood might be uncertain when society is in emergency situation. The solution of this problem would be the higher level of basic security, that ensures reasonable living, for those who can not ensure their income by any other way.

Governments across Europe are now ready to support business in unprecedented ways. Temporary support to small and medium sized businesses is essential in sustaining the economy and services. However, it must be avoided that common tax payers money to be used for increasing capitalists' economic profits. We insist that tax money does not pay for dividends and profit-making for companies, but is used to help small businesses and services that are vital to society, which are in a verge of collapse as a result of the crisis. Tax evaders who have taken special liberties such as tax evasion in exchange of entrepreneurial risks and boasted on their employment effects must not, at this time of need, continue to grow their accounts in tax havens with common funds!

The crisis caused by the coronavirus exposes the injustices of the international neoliberal market economy and gives us an opportunity to correct them. Let's start the work to build the better world.

Together we are Stronger!
